Let me tell you why I don't bother with new and free auction houses.
They ain't worth the time and effort.
As long as folks open new, improved, free, best stuff since Coors Beer auction houses without a fast and easy bulk uploader, where I can click and drop my auctions and upload 50 or more in minutes, I am simply not going to waste my time nor bother with the auction house. I am not going to get any sales out of it anyway, so the only reason would be to support competition to Ebay, which is a good reason, but not good enough for me to spend hours and hours uploading auctions with little or no return.
I left a message to Gegy concerning this a long time ago and I notice they are not doing very well either.
You folks are going to have to catch on and curry the sellers favors or you are going to continue to be #9999 in a field of 10,000 with the first 9998 belonging to Ebay.
Take this to heart or languish and finally die.

To start out with, BidRoo.com by far cannot compete with ebay. BidRoo is here as an alternative if anyone wants to use it to list there items for free. We are currently working on a large advertising campaign and hope to see a lot of traffic within the next few months. If you would like to use our services, please feel free to do so. If not, then continue using the other auction houses if you must. Pay their high and climbing fees and when your sick and tired of the prices and poor customer support come on over to BidRoo.com and list away. What can it hurt to give it a try. I believe any business on the internet has a chance of succeeding but cannot succeed without users. If people would give these smaller auction sites a chance, whether it be BidRoo.com or any other, then things would probably be a whole lot better for everyone. There would be more items, more viewers, more exposure and with the help of the extra feature prices which are very low at BidRoo.com then the smaller sites could spend more on advertising and enhancements.
Like the old saying goes: "Build it and they will come". Well another way to put it is: "List it and they will come".

Don't get your panties all ruffled. I stated how it is. Free means squat because the sales won't be there to pay me for the time it would take me to upload the auctions.
So, take that as good advice or do as the rest of the umpteen dozens of free auction houses that have a vibrant and exciting seller base albeit no sales. It's up to you.
You are the new kid on the block and it's up to you to show that you have a plan.
With no easy mass uploading for sellers it's clear you don't have a plan. Good luck to you.
If anyone is going to make it in the auction house business it would seem to me that as a minimum you would have to be a lot different from the already free auction houses that are all over the place.
You have to have something the others don't offer or you are just going to get lost in the crowd.
You are going to have to give me the seller a reason to list there. Epier is free, so why should I bother with any other?
There are just too many free auction houses to care anymore.
In my view it would take someone with millions to create a viable alternative to Ebay and I don't see that happening. Certainly the free places are worth what they charge.
Just my opinion, but I have been uploading to free places for years and have been totally disapointed in the results.
I use Epier because they have that automatic relist feature and their auctions and store items show up well in the search engines.
However, if I had to depend on Epier for my beer money I would be stone cold sober and thirst all the time!
http://www.JoeGrossinger.com
The above is a cheesy way to get a link on the search engines that never spider this place but put me into their database anyway.

As I stated above, use it or don't use it. I would like for you and everyone else to use our services. No, for now we do not have a bulk lister and we do not have some of the features that you like that are on some of the other sites, but that is a work in progress. I will keep everyone informed of new features that we will be adding and it is your choice if you would like to list your items with us or not, maybe in the near future we will have a few things that might change your minds. We have heard good and bad opinions from lots of people and are using that information to improve our services. We are a new company and have a lot to learn and we do appreciate your comments whether they are good or bad.
Best wishes!

Hi! I've been meaning to sell some of my china that my mother passed onto me after I got married about twenty years back. I really have no need for it anymore and I'm sure I'll make a decent amount off the sale. I have used some of the more obvious auction sites a couple of times in the past, but since then I've spent some time searching for some inexpensive alternatives and it looks like one of the sites, called Bay9, changed its pricing structure. The auctions seem to be purely profit-based and it looks like they no longer charge any commissions. All you need to do is join the Sellers' Club and they charge you a $5 monthly fee to place your things up at the site. If you sign on for a longer period, you pay an even lower monthly fee!
Have a look at their site -
http://www.bay9.com/auctions
Thanks,
Karen

Thanks for posting that but BidRoo.com has no listing fees. It's free! We will even host your images for free. No monthly fees! The only thing you would have to pay a small fee for is Featuring your items on the homepage and in the categories. But Regular listing cost you nothing!
We even give you $20.00 in your account to feature your items. The top sellers will also receive credits to their accounts occasionally.

Welcome, Bidroo. I am always curious when I see a new site, and go straight to the "About Us" page to learn who started the site, why, etc. I didn't notice any info like this on your site. Am I missing it?
Also, I am curious as to where you are advertising? It's tough to attract sellers, but even harder to attract buyers.
I don't mean to single you out, this is true for EVERY site. -Ina

Sorry about that! This was an overlook on our part! We forgot to add a link to our Company profile page! Here it is - http://www.bidroo.com/aboutus.htm A link to this page has also been added to our sitemap here - http://www.bidroo.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?action=sitemap
As far as advertising we have submitted to several big search engines, we have purchased pay per click advertising, we have a banner campaign, and soon will be working on a much larger advertising campaign which I will post additional information about this here or on our community forum at a later date.
Thanks

The announced massive advertising is disappointing to say the least. I DO ALL OF THE ABOVE FOR MY LITTLE WEBSITE!
Well, good luck anyway.
I guess a 2 minutes spot on the superbowl was too much to hope for, but submitting to search engines does not exactly amount to an advertising campaign.

The full details have not been worked out yet so I cannot tell you much at this time.

Hi Joe, just out of curiosity where might your little website be? I checked your profile and it doesn't list a home page and also I notice you do not have a little URL icon beneath your posts. You say you do all the things that Bidroo did for advertising for your little website but you don't advertise it here in the forum. Not trying to be provocative, just curious.

The only problem with the site you are talking about Karrie is that once again it sounds too much like Ebay. (Just like BidBay recently had to change to AuctionDiner)
If word of it gets to Ebay, they will once again defend "their name".
As far as BidRoo...I always welcome competition. Ebay has what amounts to a monopoly. This means that whenever they want to they can raise their prices, change the rules, and basically they can rest assured that since they are the "only game in town" they will still turn a nice tidy profit.
Let a newcomer come along and, with some savvy advertising, take away some of Ebay's power over the online auction consumers and maybe, just maybe Ebay might actually become a little more user friendly.
Good luck to you BidRoo. It's an uphill climb but here's hoping you make it. By the way I have an online auction site that features a newsletter. If you would like to place a free ad in it to announce your new site, please email me. No strings...that's what my ezine is there for.
Take care all,

Hello Everyone!
We have finally finished the updating of our software at BidRoo.com and would like for everyone to come over and list your items for free or just browse around and maybe you'll find something of interest to bid on.
Advertising at the moment is slow due to all the updating we have been doing but with the advertising that we have done, we are getting quite a few visitors each day. Mostly from Google.com and a few others from our banner exchanges as well.
As we have stated before, advertising on Google.com and Overture.com will commence in the next couple of weeks and that will bring in a lot more buyers & sellers too.
We have been off to a slow start but are fixing to kick things in gear and get the party started. We have tested our software and worked out all the bugs and other technical stuff and now we are ready to go for the gold. Advertising is our next and biggest project in the works!

Hey Bidroo just thought I would wish you luck, however As an auction webmaster myself you will see that using a flat text database as you are is going to create issues for you when you auction reaches higher listings. Speeds will just drop and you wont know why. I used the exact same script about 8 months ago and noticed problems when listings got to be around 1200, it was a tremendous set back for us because we essentually had to dump all listings and get a programmer to make a database driven script. If I am correct your using Deluxe Auction script. We have learned alot about auctions and how they function and let me tell you its no easy task. Getting people to trust a new site is virtually impossible. We have no problem getting traffic at QuicklySell.com however its return traffic that matters. I wish you the absolute best luck, but let me give you some advise about making sure if this is your only hope of income try to find another way as well. We are fotunate because we are a webhosting company as well so it floats the boat for us and doesnt make us rely solely on our auctions. Please feel free to come and post any information you would like on our site promoting your auction site. We realize that with Ebay being GOD in regards to auctions, all us little guys are going to have nothing but an uphill battle. Fortunately for us our auctions are just a small part of what we do. Great luck to you!!
bidroo
05-21-2002, 05:08 PM
Quicklysell,
Thanks for the heads up and good luck!
We have heavily modified the script we are using and have tested it with over 1500 auction items before going live with it and everything went well. We have a wonderful web host and server and have alot of faith in them and our software. I myself am a programmer and also have a couple other programmers on hand if a problem arises.
If things do begin to go hay-wire with our software we will do what is necessary to keep the site alive, even if that means purchasing or programming a totally new auction software. In any event, we are more than prepared to handle the situation.
Wish you good luck as well!

Hello Bidroo.com This is http://www.buyselltrades.com, If anyone has any respect for what you are doing. That would be us, Ebay is everywhere they have money coming out of their ears. Us little guys are struggling to get people to reconize that ebay isn't everthing. We have spent in excess of 10,000 or more on advertising just to receive 150 users who are looking for anything they can get for free!! People who go to your website do not have a clue on what it takes for you to be seen to the world. And I am here to let them know. First off a website that can do things automatically is a great accomplishment, second to get someone to see it is the hardest and most expensive thing you could ever do. It takes 1,000's of hours of research to get where Bidroo is right now!!! Believe It. Don't believe it Try it!! People think that Ebay is everything, but it is not how much do you pay to use their service? Sites like ours cost nothing, but when you sell. Of course you get a lot of exposure, but who are you competing against and did you have to lower your prices? So it is to anyones advantage to try something different especially when it is FREE!!! What do you have to lose NOT A THING! This is our belief thankyou for reading this

Bidoroo I wish you luck. I too was Fed Up with the way I was treated on Ebay, I know after getting taken by their sellers three times in a month only to find Ebay didn't give a dam, complained and asked in their forum how I could get some satisfaction or at least how to get their attention. Well I got it in about twenty minutes, they banned me from the site and removed my posts. I had over a hundred positive feedbacks for high end items, I get taken they ban me and the sellers that took me are still trading go fiqure. Something is wrong with that picture. Anyways instead of fuming about it I built this site http://www.U-1.ca a user friendly site that offer way more than ebay, and did I mention its free to post a item with 1 image and unlimited text with our additional option fees at very reasonable rates. We offer much more than Ebay check out http://www.u-1.ca/whyfree.shtml The U-1 Advantage Please check us out and just so you know I am just about to start building the identical site for the US.
Ps. We are not some mickey mouse site. We have a gigabit technology server cluster on our own dedicated Fibre Optice line right on the internet backbone and are capable of millions of items and unlimited users. I have invested over 4000 hours and close to a million dollars building it. Anyways enough of the promotion of our site. But I have to agree with many of the other replies it is going to be a hard road to compete with ebay, fortunatley I own a busy demolition business and this is just a bee in my bonnet so I will continue to slug away day after day, probably year after year, but the secret would be a heavy advertising campaign. Search engines are great but only seem to bring buyers few sellers, I know type in canada online auction or canadian online auction we come Up # 2 and three and last week were no 1 and two only behind ebays sponsered add, and wow this week we are now behind ebay with a no sponsered add, wonder how that happened. Anyways wish you luck. Frank D Rayner

Just to inform you all that the Bloke in the Pub, a person-to-person auction based in the UK is gearing up to include MULTI CURRENCY support. It is already advanced in terms of features and has bulk listing, bulk relisting, etc. It is also compatable with Auction Tamer.
Very soon you'll be able to list in US$'s and other curtrencies.
It's one to watch for the future.
